Students work with a font and create abstractions from the letterforms into a grid structure. Part of this exercise is to learn how to use a grid, rulers, guidelines, convert text to outlines, and to work with masks and two separate illlustrator files.
One of the first projects I have my typography students create is a poster series to creatively explore the anatomy of typography and to develop a cohesive design set. These posters are printed professionally so students begin to learn how to prep files for commercial printing.

These self-portraits were created frame-by-frame in Adobe Animate, then complied all together in Adobe After Effects.
This project challenges student to look at type as an art form. These posters are printed at 24″x 36″ by a commercial printer.
These collaborative alphabets were created in my typography class.
Students created 2D Animated letterforms in Adobe Animate,
Students work in teams to pick a font and color scheme.
They vote on the font and scheme.
Students are assigned either a letter, a number or a glyph.
The class size determines the number of characters each student needs to animate.
All of the individual animations are composited in Adobe AfterEffects and set to music.
Enjoy!
